What Is a JSON Diff Checker?

A JSON diff checker compares two JSON documents and highlights what changed between them. Instead of reading both files line by line, you can see added, removed, and changed values quickly.

ToolsViewer's online JSON compare tool understands JSON structure, so it works with nested objects and arrays rather than treating your data as plain text. It also lets you jump between changes.

How to Use the JSON Diff Checker

Step 1: Add both versions
Paste or import your Original JSON on one side and the Changed JSON on the other, or load the sample.

Step 2: Click Compare
The tool checks that both sides are valid JSON and compares them.

Step 3: Review the highlights
Added, removed, and changed values are highlighted. Use the change navigation to move through the differences. You can turn on live highlighting to see updates while you edit.

Step 4: Download the diff
Download the diff once you are happy with the results.

Review configuration changes: See what is different between two settings files.

Debug unexpected data: Find the field that differs between expected and actual output.

Check data transformations: Confirm that only the intended values changed.

Ignore key order: Turn on Sort keys to avoid false differences caused by ordering.

Supported Formats

  • JSON text on both sides
  • .json files
  • .txt files containing JSON
  • Output as a downloadable diff

The download contains the diff produced after you compare, not a copy of either side on its own.
